now i'm between homes
everywhere and nowhere
i carry the pollen with me
beneath metallic wings
subdivisions spiral into
american night

now i'm taking everything apart
review and revise
old jazz records, dusty philosophy books
photographs of former selves
postcards from hearts i broke
a decade ago

now muscles strain to relax
i try to hold onto the things i know i'll miss
as it all fades dancing away
i fall asleep every night
gazing at the glittering bridge
stretching hopeful across the river
like a promise
