2004-08-29 - 6:52 p.m.

i'm listening to the free103point9 radio stream of the protests in new york city. i went and marched down seventh avenue this afternoon but started to suffer heatstroke and came back to sit in front of my air conditioner and recover. i'm listening to folks taunting the republican delegates coming out of the broadway shows around times square. folks are getting arrested left and right. but all in all, considering about half a million people went into the streets, it's been blessedly uneventful. whether or not the city can stay so calm throughout the next week is anyone's guess. everyone's pretty tense. i watched critical mass nearly get flattened by frustrated truck drivers on friday night and have been a bit jittery ever since.

normally, i think i would be irritated by the protest tourists and the extraterrestrial broadsheets and the bad puns. but i'm so upset about the war and so angry about the current administration i couldn't wait to get into the street today. it felt good to be around so many of my fellow new yorkers, everyone good and pissed off. a and i stood almost unable to move on seventh ave for two and a half hours. we were shoulder to shoulder with inflatable pigs, several drum corps, and more handprinted signs than i've ever seen in one place. i was happiest while we were marching behind the young communists, because they had the best chants.

i've literally never seen so many people so pissed off in one place. if you aren't pissed off yet, these guys have sent tens of warriors into the streets to fight the leftists!
