2004-02-18 - 9:03 a.m.

last night my good friend aerlia came over to hang out. she brought arugula and white bean soup, which i paired with a leggy pinot nero and later, a jammy primitivo. we popped popcorn and watched movies about beauty queens and cheerleaders. we stayed up listening to eighties songs until almost 3a. she stayed over on the pull-out. i think it was the armangac that finally put the evening over the edge. i vaguely remember performing cheerleader-style moves in the kitchen to the tune of 'situation' by yaz.

our first feature was 'drop dead gorgeous', which stars kirsten dunst and denise richards. i can't actually claim this is a good movie, especially if one uses the word 'good' to indicate sparkling dialogue, nuanced performances, and a compelling story. 'drop dead gorgeous' is definitely worth the price of a rental, however, as it features a mind-blowing sequence in which denise richards (as a sharp-shooting minnesota beauty queen contestant) waltzes with a life-sized crucifixion prop for the talent portion of the pageant. her character later meets her fate in the belly of a flaming swan float.
