2003-07-09 - 11:26 a.m.

i saw the most 'meta' tableaux on bedford yesterday.

i had been camping out at the verb, piggybacking on the T1 since our loft is too hot to work in. z came by and suggested we stroll down to the L to see l's paintings, freshly hung. they looked fabulous, but nothing i hadn't already previewed in her studio. on our amble back towards the girdle factory, we ran smack into a film shoot at the corner of north sixth and bedford ave. the setting was that of a typical sidewalk sale, the type that line the avenue every sunday. but a set designer was adjusting the sub-thrift-store dresses hanging on the wall (over my favorite neckface tag!) and a costume mistress was sewing a patch onto an actress' cut-offs. kliegs and arriflexes documented the scene. further blurring the gap between the real and staged, i recognised a couple of regular bedford ave vendors, with their tired stock of underground videos and costume jewelry, undoubtedly hired as extras and local color.

i never found out what they were filming. i was only mildly disturbed to see my daily life used as a cheap set dressing. its not the first or the last time that's happened.
