2003-03-06 - 10:57 a.m.

snow is falling in thick fat flakes this morning. its actually kind of hypnotic to watch. too bad the snow from the last blizzard more than 2 weeks ago hasn't entirely melted.

i had a great rehearsal with la last night. i think we're really sneaking up on something good.

the hipsters handbook guy is on the radio this morning. he lives in my neighborhood, the epicenter of hipsterdom. i'm tired of the whole deck-or-fin thing, but i'm glad the homies are pulling in the benjis. he is saying hipsters don't surf, don't smoke pot, he has obviously never been to venice, ca. guess i'm a neo-crunch.

i'm not going outside until things stop falling from the sky. here's my favorite stay-inside recipe:

CARROTS AND FRIED RICE

  • one cup or more of old steamed rice (preferably from your last chinese takeout meal)
  • three small carrots
  • 1 1/2 tbsp butter (or peanut oil)
  • three cloves garlic
  • 2 or 3 eggs
  1. melt butter in a nonstick pan over medium heat.
  2. chop carrots small and add to pan.
  3. mince garlic and add to pan. continue cooking until carrots begin to brown.
  4. add rice. if its been in the fridge, even better.
  5. stir in the rice and break up any rice clumps. cook for 2 or 3 minutes or until rice begins to brown.
  6. scramble the eggs. pile pan contents in the center of the pan and pour the scrambled eggs over them.
  7. stir vigorously until eggs are cooked.
  8. serve with a little soy sauce and a cup of black tea! serves two.
