2003-02-13 - 11:52 a.m.

sun glinting off icy snowpack in the sugar factory parking lot. i'm drinking a huge glass of soy milk with a little coffee to get motivated to pull my shit together and get to my studio. lots to do, but i just feel like hanging out, playing with my new audio equipment, maybe going for a walk.

so sleepy from too much partying last night. a midweek night out is really tough for me now that i'm 30+. after playing music for a couple of hours with la, we decamped to the italian wine bar for full bodied reds and platters of exquisite meats. if you've never tasted bresaola (an air dried italian beef which tastes almost like tako sashimi), treat yourself! i felt so high from the meat and the wine it was almost like smoking really mellow grass.

after which i cabbed it over to the westside, where p was spinning platters at the swank lounge. f even showed up, though he was hungry and tired after teaching in white plains all evening. p seemed more confident and suave this time around, plus he played one of my all time favorite tracks: 'the lebanon' by human league. so timely!

as usual, i'm listening to NPR as i type. are people really wrapping everything in duct tape and plastic sheeting? if so, f is ahead of the curve, since tape is one of his favorite art materials. does anyone think this is going to make a whit of difference if something awful happens? isn't this the equivalent of duck and cover drills in the event of nuclear attack?

seriously, people, get a grip. duct tape is not going to keep us safe. today is the end of the hajj, and i don't see any reason to panic.
